Our Work Outside Score helps you decide if conditions are right for taking your laptop to a patio. Here's what goes into each score.
Maximum possible score
We score the heat-index 'feels like' temp, not just the raw number. 70–78°F is the sweet spot. Above 92°F feels-like takes a heavy penalty; over 98°F is the harshest temperature hit. Hard cold (below 40°F) is dinged too.
Under 10% chance of rain is ideal. 40–60% starts hurting the score, and above 60% you'll see a heavy penalty—rain and laptops don't mix.
Light breezes (under 10 mph) are perfect. Above 20 mph, papers start flying and screens get tough to see.
30–55% humidity is comfortable. Above 80% is oppressive on its own. We also stack an extra penalty when it's both warm and humid—85°F+ with 55%+ RH gets dinged because mugginess compounds heat.
When a specific condition is the culprit (rain incoming, dangerous heat, gusty wind, sticky air), the message calls it out instead of a generic score tier.
