How We Calculate the Work Outside Score

Our Work Outside Score helps you decide if conditions are right for taking your laptop to a patio. Here's what goes into each score.

    10

    Maximum possible score

    Temperature

    -3 to +3 pts

The sweet spot is 70–78°F for full points. Slightly outside that range still scores well. Extreme cold (below 40°F) or heat (above 100°F) receives the maximum penalty.

    Precipitation

    -3 to +3 pts

Clear skies earn full points. A 10% or lower chance of rain is ideal. Above 60% chance, you'll see significant penalties—rain and laptops don't mix.

    Wind

    -1 to +2 pts

Light breezes (under 10 mph) are perfect for outdoor work. Above 20 mph, papers start flying and it becomes hard to focus.

    Humidity

    -1 to +2 pts

Comfortable humidity (30–60%) gets full points. Above 85% feels oppressive and makes outdoor work unpleasant.
